Wollemi Wanders
Wollemi Wanders
Origin of our name
“Wollemi” refers not only to Wollemi National Park (very close to our location in Mt Wilson) but also to the Wollemi pine tree, Wollemia nobilis, a living fossil found only in a single canyon system in this national park. The exact location of the trees is a closely guarded secret so we can’t take you there, but we can show you its habitat and point out the plant species that grow alongside it.
Most importantly Wollemi is an Aboriginal word meaning “look around you, pay attention” in reference to the rugged landscape of this region, dotted with canyons and other obstacles. We also like to imagine this is a message to appreciate the area’s unique landscape, flora and fauna.
“Wanders” of course means that we go where the interest lies, i.e., our purpose is the journey, not the destination.
